Our Privacy-First Commitment
Zero-Knowledge Architecture: MoodMonkey is built with privacy at its core. Your mood data, personal entries, photos, and voice recordings are encrypted on your device using AES-256 encryption before being stored in our systems. This means that we cannot access, read, or decrypt your personal mood data. Your emotional journey belongs to you alone.
Information We Collect
To provide you with the best experience, we collect the following types of information:
- Personal Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and username. If you choose to connect via a third-party service (such as Google or Apple Sign-In), we may collect additional information from your public profile.
- Mood Data (Encrypted): When you use the App, you can save information about your mood, emotions, activities, photos, and voice notes. All mood data is encrypted with AES-256 encryption on your device before being stored. We store this encrypted data but cannot access or decrypt it. Only you and the trusted circle members you choose to share with (up to 10 people) can view your encrypted mood entries.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you use the App and our Services, including the features you interact with, the time spent on the App, and your device and software characteristics. This helps us improve the App's performance and user experience.
- Location Data (Optional): For emergency SOS features, you can choose to share your location with designated emergency contacts. Location data is only collected when you explicitly trigger the SOS alert.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve our App and Services
- To personalize your experience (note: personalization does not require us to decrypt your mood data)
- To analyze usage patterns and improve the performance of the App
- To communicate with you regarding updates, promotions, and customer support
- To process subscription payments through RevenueCat
- To deliver emergency SOS alerts to your designated contacts
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues
- To comply with applicable laws and regulations
Important: We do not use your encrypted mood data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than storing it securely for you and your trusted circle.
Sharing Your Information
We will not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except in the following circumstances:
- With your consent
- With Your Trusted Circle: When you choose to share mood entries with your trusted circle (up to 10 people), those members can view your encrypted content that you explicitly share with them
- To trusted service providers who assist us in providing and maintaining the App and our Services, under strict confidentiality agreements (including Firebase for infrastructure, RevenueCat for subscription management, and Google Analytics for usage analysis)
- To comply with legal obligations, such as responding to subpoenas or court orders
- In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our assets, provided that the acquiring entity agrees to maintain the confidentiality of your information
- To protect the safety and security of our users and the public
Note: Because your mood data is encrypted, even if shared with service providers for storage, they cannot access the actual content of your mood entries.
Data Security
We take the security of your personal information seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Enterprise-Grade Encryption:
- AES-256 Encryption: All mood data, photos, voice recordings, and personal entries are encrypted on your device before transmission or storage
- Zero-Knowledge Architecture: We cannot decrypt or access your encrypted mood data. Only you and your designated circle members can view the content you share
- Secure Key Storage: Encryption keys are stored securely on your device using platform-specific secure storage (iOS Keychain, Android Keystore)
- End-to-End Encryption: Content shared within your trusted circle remains encrypted in transit and at rest
However, please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. While we cannot access your encrypted mood data, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and account credentials.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the App and our Services, or as required by law. Specific retention policies:
- Free Users: Mood data is retained for 6 months
- Premium Users: Unlimited data retention as long as your subscription is active
- Account Deletion: When you delete your account, we will delete your encrypted mood data and personal information within a reasonable timeframe (typically 30 days), unless we are required to retain it for legal reasons
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access, update, or delete your personal information through the App settings
- Export all your data (mood entries, photos, analytics) in a readable format
- Opt-out of certain communications from us (you can manage email preferences in the App)
- Request a copy of your personal information
- Request that we stop processing your personal information
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time
- File a complaint with a data protection authority

Third-Party Services
MoodMonkey integrates with the following third-party services to provide our features:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication, cloud storage, and database infrastructure
- RevenueCat: Subscription management and payment processing
- Google Analytics: App usage analytics and performance monitoring
- Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In: Authentication services
These third-party services have their own privacy policies governing their collection and use of your information. While they may store encrypted data on our behalf, they cannot decrypt your personal mood entries due to our zero-knowledge architecture.
Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete such information. If you are under 18, please obtain parental or guardian consent before using MoodMonkey.
